Student Session:  My ideas to propagate Value Based education system to promote culture of Peace in the World. (Exclusive session for Students & Teachers)

This session departed from the format of the previous sessions. This was an interactive question and answer session which was conducted by the brilliant Mrs Sheetal Vij. Various questions were posed to the students who were invited on the podium. Questions such as what \Peace studies\ mean to the students, what their take is on value based education, what is culture and religion and how to reduce war and conflict. The students answered excellently and this was in no small part due to the excellent moderating skills of the teachers present on the dais. Multiple solutions to larger world problems were proposed by the students who seem keen to break the cycle of strife and bring about a lasting peace for all mankind. There was also an interactive session with the assembled audience members who posited their own views and questions to the dais and received many enlightening replies, helped no doubt, by the excellent quality of the questions.

The motivational speaker chose to explain the difference between a value based education and an education catering simply to economics and competitiveness brings about. He mentioned the story of an IIT engineering student who committed suicide after coming second in class and the student who is yet to pass after numerous attempts. He stated that without a value based education, there can be no real progress or peace. He hopes the education systems around the globe recognize this fact

Maulana Dr Syed Kalbe Rushaid Rizvi

Thursday

02:30 pm -  04:15 pm

The learned Maulana wished to explain the concept of a value based education by ensuring that the audience understand the distinction between education and upbringing. Merely providing an education does not prepare an individual as to how to use that education in an ethically and morally correct fashion, this is responsible for corrupting those with knowledge. Upbringing, something which can be imparted via a value based education ensures the student knows how best to utilize the knowledge that has been accrued by them. This, in turn, ensures progress of society as well as recognition for the individual responsible for the particular change.

N Radhakrishnan

Thursday

02:30 pm -  04:15 pm

The speaker stressed that a holistic education system is the only way to move forward. Forgetting about ones cultures and traditions is a sure-fire way of losing out the moral and ethical fibre which stands at the core of each individuals being. Education must be a tool for holistic development rather than a tool for a compartmentalized system to exploit. The speaker believes that this is the only way forward for educationists.
