In 2011, she retired from Westminster College, in Salt Lake City, as Professor Emeritus in the School of Education. Her areas of expertise were in special education and science education. In 2012, 2014 and 2016, Carolyn traveled to Wai, India with Westminster students and professors in order to work on the Wai- Westminster projects. The projects generally focused on literacy and science education for all students, including students with disabilities. One project, in particular led to great insights about the struggles for families who have students with special needs. Carolyn was inspired and motivated by the courageous stories she heard and help record.
In 2012, Carolyn remained in Wai for three months working with high school teacher at Tarkateertha Laxmanshastri Joshi Vidyalaya and teachers of students with severe disabilities at Rivka Sahil Akshar Institute.
